1 What is this page for?

This page is for the Frequently Asked Questions about the disk image and virtual machine appliance that has been created for this OpenFOAM Workshop.

2 Is the OpenFOAM Workshop provided by the Foundation or OpenCFD Ltd?

Not exactly the right place to ask about this, but might as well get this out of the way. These OpenFOAM Workshops have been organised by independent committees composed of people who strive to make OpenFOAM® technology as open and as well known as possible to the world, to help and teach the community that uses this technology, as well as creating a way to stay in touch and establish new contacts.

This was also because when the OpenFOAM project was first conceived, the original authors of the project (working at OpenCFD Limited) we're already too busy in getting the project up and running, that any peripheral endeavours would only strain their limited resources. To give you an idea, check the release notes for version 1.0 on the OpenFOAM Foundation's website.

Nonetheless, the OpenFOAM® trade-mark has been held by OpenCFD Limited since the project's inception and is acknowledged by the Workshop committees, namely that:

This offering is not approved or endorsed by OpenCFD Limited, producer and distributor of the OpenFOAM software and owner of the OPENFOAM® and OpenCFD® trade marks.

For more details about the OpenFOAM® trade-mark, please read the respective policy available here: OpenCFD Limited Trade Mark Policy

3 Does the USB-stick image and the virtual machine work in 32-bit machines?

Given the lengthy development process of this USB-stick image and VM, we had to decide that the 32-bit machines are now considered mostly deprecated and that Workshop attendees are most likely to bring 64-bit capable machines.

Nonetheless, if you do not have access to a 64-bit machine and plan on attending the Workshop, please let the OFW11 committee know about this, by writing on the support thread for this endeavour: Support for the USB-stick image and Virtual Machine Appliance for the OFW11

4 Can I propose that a certain software is also provided?

As long as the software is open source, yes you can! Please use the support thread: Support for the USB-stick image and Virtual Machine Appliance for the OFW11
