I am currently a Master's student at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. I am working on developing a multiphysics model of a platinum smelting furnace in OpenFOAM. Currently I have developed an electrical solver to calculate heat generation in the furnace and I hope to have added heat transfer and convection driven flow by the end of 2015.

I am planning on continuing with my Doctorate next year when I would like to build more physics into my solver, this could include: melting of fine concentrate powder, freeze lining formation and melting, multiphase and multiregion.

I am part of a pyrometallurgical modelling group in the Metallurgical Engineering, supervised by Dr Johan Zietsman. We are working on developing OpenFOAM capabilities within our group. We are always interested to hear about other work with OpenFOAM and/or pyrometallurgy.
