My current research focuses on the sub-atmospheric pressure on the vertical structure generated by non-aerated tsunami overflow. A pilot study (Patil et al., 2018) found that this increases the sliding and overturning forces on the caisson or wall, and the punching pressure on its foundation. However, the relation among the tsunami waveform, structure geometry, and the resulting sub-atmospheric pressure and the force it induces is not yet known. My research aims to close both of these knowledge gaps through laboratory experiments and numerical simulations.
