Paulo Vatavuk graduated in mechanical engineering from the Instituto de Ensino de Engenharia Paulista (1982), holds a master's degree (1988) and doctorate (1996) in mechanical engineering from the University of São Paulo He is currently an associate professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism of Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP).
