1 The OpenFOAM®-Extend Community Portal

This portal is intended to provide a sound infrastructure as a basis for world-wide joint developments on extensions of the OpenFOAM® CFD toolbox. The infrastructural core to enable collaborative work on the OpenFOAM® CFD toolbox is organised around this web site which is based upon the content management system Joomla![1]. Via a menu you will be lead to the information on how to take (or be) part of the OpenFOAM®-Extend project.

Visit the portal at

 http://openfoam-extend.sourceforge.net/community/

Some features:

  • Create your own sub-project and sub-group of the OpenFOAM®-Extend project (Task manager and network facilities are available!)
  • Find and/or organize OpenFOAM® related event as local user group meetings using the event management.
  • Register your institute, company or service provider as "OpenFOAM® Cluster" at our board system -- Get connected.
  • Acquire students, post-docs or professionals for your projects using the academic board or professional board system respectively.

At the bottom you find a world map holding current main development clusters and contributors to the OpenFOAM®-Extend project.

This offering is not approved or endorsed by OpenCFD® Limited, the producer of the OpenFOAM® software and owner of the OpenFOAM® and OpenCFD® trade marks.

2 Fork

OpenFoam-extended is a Community-driven project and to remove the confusion I'd like to propose to fork the OpenFOAM project as the extend project is already a separated line of development. There is already a fork cal freeFoam but other companies use this name. So since there is already an effort to have the OpenFOAM code drive by the community this effort should be join under an other name that dose not involve derivative names as OpenFOAM trademark-guidelines specified. In the 6th workshop a presentation was made about this subject and the proposition was to fork the project and change all the header of each file to specify the file that hold of the list of contributor to the project as it should be in copy-left project. This way the name of the companies that started this project will be specify as one of the contributor and no misunderstanding as if everything in this project was made only by openCFD will be made again. This will make further development a much nicer place to be as the name of developer will be specified. An other positive aspect is that the new fork will have development and stable version of the code this way will be easier to maintain the new functionality of this new fork. Now lets chose a name !!
